How the Fixture List Is Built
Unlike the old group stage — where teams knew their six opponents on draw day — the league phase draw on 27 August assigns each club eight different opponents drawn from four seeding pots. Every team plays two opponents from each pot, one at home and one away. The specific match dates for each fixture are then computer-generated and published by UEFA, typically within 24 hours of the draw, to avoid clashes with domestic leagues, other UEFA competitions, and local events.
Matchday 8 is unique: all 36 teams play simultaneously on the same night (27 January 2027), with 18 matches kicking off at the same time. The simultaneous scheduling was introduced to preserve sporting integrity — no team can gain an advantage by knowing results elsewhere — and the format produced some of the most dramatic moments of the 2025/26 season.
What to Expect From the Draw
The league phase draw features four pots of nine teams each, seeded by UEFA club coefficient.
